The Truth About Boys and Girls
Digital animation with sound, 4:37, 2009

In The Truth about Boys and Girls, texts were collected by typing the following queries into Google: "girls like to," "boys like to," and "boys and girls like." While the "girls like to" search mostly generated negative responses relating to issues of self-esteem and sexual promiscuity, the “boys like to” search produced comparatively benign and otherwise positive masculine responses. By examining the powerful and often confusing messages that impressionable young people encounter in everyday life, the piece reveals the degree to which the internet is an outlet for the expression of repressed gender stereotypes.
