Graven Images
Mixed media, dimension variable, 2015

Graven Images was a two-person show with artist Jana Rumberger. My installation evaluates idolatry through religion, superstition, and cults: beliefs or practices that may be deemed to be threatening or illogical.

The installation includes a handmade book, a topographical cake, and a "medicine shield" ; the medicine shield is partially hidden by curtains onto which the words “I cried with my whole heart” from Psalm 119 is repeatedly hand-stamped, eventually deteriorating and becoming illegible, acting as a meditation on colonization.

Graven Images was a participatory installation, with a live reading, cake-cutting ceremony, and edible objects and limited edition prints available for sale.
